Brief History

Orumba North Local Government Area

Orumba North is a Local Government Area in Anambra State, East-central Nigeria. Created in 1991 from the former Orumba LGA, Orumba North is headquartered in Ajalli and is renowned as the agricultural heartland of Anambra State. The LGA is made up of 16 major towns: Ajalli, Amaetiti, Amaokpala, Awa, Awgbu, Ndikelionwu, Ndiokolo, Ndiokpalaeze, Ndiowu, Ndiukwuenu, Nanka, Oko, Okpeze, Omogho, and Ufuma.

The LGA is blessed with markedly fertile land for agriculture, with prominent products including rice, yam, cassava, and palm oil. Most of the population are subsistence farmers and traders. The area is also home to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko and the Awgbu Grammar School, attracting a large student community. The New Yam festival is a well-known cultural celebration in the region.
